When you’re open for a romantic relationship, it is quite normal to have a set of standards to guide you in choosing the person you want to date. However, no matter what characteristics or attitude you are looking for partner, it all comes down to finding the person who will make you feel good about yourself and happy.

If you are looking for someone with seemingly unique, built-in characteristics that will fit your personality, you might want to try looking for someone who is/was working as product manager. Here are a few reasons why:

Why Should you Date a Product Manager?

A person who has been working as a product manager is bound to have the following capabilities:

  1. Empathy

“Don’t make a better experience; make a better user of experience.” — Kathy Sierra

Product managers are trained to be able to relate to their clients and team in order to achieve their goals. They have deep empathy for their target customer. If you are dating a Product manager, he or she will identify and understand the differences and not project all of his needs. He will not ignore or take you for granted but respect you and empathize with you.

For instance, if you’re thirty minutes late to your dinner, they won’t be immediately upset or angry about it, but would listen to you and try to understand your situation. They would not jump into conclusions and respect that you also have a personal life to be considered.

2. Strive to Establish and Provide you with Great Experiences

“The utmost thing is the user experience, to have the most useful experience.” — Marissa Mayer

For a PM, great customer or user experiences are a necessity, so he would strive to create for and with you. If they want you to be happy with them, they will identify your needs, work to meet them, test if their efforts work and involve you. They will ensure that what they did address your need in the most effective way.

3. Picking Battles

Only move forward with creating a product that will be “above the bar.” — Brian Lawley

Excellence or “above the bar” is what Product managers strive, so when you date a Product manager, you can guarantee that he will always make sure to give the best for you. This can be true from picking the best venue or date place and finding the perfect gift. They will do to provide everything in the best way possible.

4. Knows how to Prioritize

“The key is not to prioritize what’s on your schedule, but to schedule your priorities.”– Stephen Covey

Managing a product is all about managing priorities. The job of a Product manager resolves around identifying the right product to focus on in order to obtain the desired result. When you date a Product manager, they know you’re a priority and make sure that you know and feel it. They know what’s important and what’s not, and would focus on how to make things work for both of you.

If you are sad, they may ask you if it is “critical” or “minor” and then take actions accordingly.

5. Stakeholder Management

They said that unmet expectation is one of the killers of a relationship. A person often has some expectations on his or her partner and when these are not met, they would lead to frustration, resentment or even anger. A Product manager may have some expectations in your relationship, but they know which one really matters and which do not. They would not expect you to update them about your hourly activities. Also, they know what is expected of them, so they would do their best to be able to handle and meet it. If they know you expect them to spend your weekends together without distractions, they would certainly make an effort to achieve it.
